How To Fall Asleep At Night

How many times have you tried to fall asleep at night, after a hard day, and even if you were tired, you could not sleep? If it’s your case, you’re not alone; this is a problem of many, and I also correctly understand you 🙂

Based on my experience, I know that the primary cause that prevents us from getting to sleep at night is stress.
We are sometimes stressed, and we do not even realize it. The cause is mainly our chaotic lifestyle, the various changes we face and the problems of everyday life.

Sometimes at night, we are overwhelmed by those problems that seek a solution, other times we just finally had a day more beautiful than others, and we try to relive it in our mind. Does it make sense to you?

The point is that we turn in bed until two in the morning and we can’t find peace!

In the next lines, I want to give you some tricks on how to fall asleep at night.

Why do you not manage to fall asleep?

woman next to the bedIt seems a contradiction being tired and not being able to sleep, right? Well, when you’ll discover the main reason for tiredness, nothing will seem so absurd to you;)

You start feeling tired when your energy goes down, you see your muscles a little weak, and you think the only thing you need is sound sleep. Wrong!

Our body can continuously produce energy. In fact, why there are people more energetic than others, have you ever thought about it? Well, there is an answer. This kind of active people have more self-control and can better manage their emotions!

You’ll think all this stuff I’m talking about does not make any sense, because after 8 hours of work you challenge anyone to feel fresh and perky;) Right! But it is not the physical work that tires us.

Worries are the leading cause of fatigue.

Concerns are negative thoughts, these weaken your muscles and make you feel tired!

Don’t you believe it? Try not to worry about anything a whole day and then let me know;)

How to manage the worries

You may think that only an irresponsible person does not worry about anything, at least I thought it this way ten years ago 🙂 But concerns do not serve you at all, that’s why you have to get rid of them. It’s easier to say it than to do it, but with a little practice and patience, everything is possible. Just start to be aware of the fact that most of the things you worry about, almost always solve themselves in ways that you have not even thought. You don’t also have to worry about the future because this one is entirely unknown!

writingIf you are lying in bed with the hope of getting to sleep, but you don’t manage to do it because a series of thoughts dominate you that do not let you relax, I advise you not to clean your house at 2 am at night … it is not relaxing at all … The next morning you will have the house clean, but you won’t recognize yourself in front of the mirror and unfortunately, the practice of starting a day in a better way before throwing yourself back into the jungle, won’t serve you to anything;)

In fact, cleaning your house is a way to relieve stress, but in my experience, it won’t help you to relax, because you can also feel more energized after that and you won’t necessarily fall asleep.

When we have a problem, our brain activates itself to solve it, and our mind gets full of “solutions to the problems.” Unfortunately, we never find the solution to anything by just thinking about it, because we never have only one problem at a time! We have more areas to which we unconsciously dedicate ourselves every day: health, beauty, family, children, work, etc. So it creates itself such chaos in our mind that we do not manage to deal with it.

I suggest you, something that helped me a lot; it’s simple and effective: take a piece of paper and a pen and write on it all those problems that take off your peace. In this way, you’ll see more clearly what things worry you, and it will be easier for you to find a solution to it. Not only, but by writing down your thoughts you’ll also free your mind from them.

How to relax

Once you’ve silenced your thoughts and you’re okay, let’s think about how to relax:

  • Read a book (if you focus on the story you read, you will relax)
  • Listen to relaxing music in the background (in this case, however, direct your attention towards the sound of music.)
  • Take a bath with essential oils (this is how you relax your body, and this will also have a positive influence on your mood)
But if the three points above do not inspire you enough, I still have the last breathesuggestion;)
  • Lay down on the bed, try to relax all the muscles of your body and face. Let yourself completely go. Close your eyes and start focusing on your breath. You can inhale deeply from the nose, thus filling the lungs with air, count to 6 and then exhale slowly, thus letting the air out of the lungs. Do notice that when you breathe your shoulders must be relaxed and during the inhalation, the belly swells like a balloon, which deflates during exhalation. For the right practice, keep focusing on breathing.

Keep breathing slowly and deeply, and with each breath allow yourself to get even more relaxed.

Follow the technique that you like best and that you consider most useful to you. Above all, I suggest you use the method I have indicated right away to free your mind from worries. Take a piece of sheet and write on it all your fears.

Do it and let me know if it has worked for you;)

If you still have any question, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment below and I’ll be more than happy to help you out.

Enjoy you relax,

Sleep is so important for all of us. We function much better if we have a good nights sleep but as you point out, it does not come easy for everyone.
My husband struggles to get good quality sleep and he gets up has a bowl of weet bix and yogurt then sits in his recliner in front of the telly where he will ultimately fall back to sleep. I am opposite, I go to bed and will sleep right through for 8-9 hours very soundly.
You have provided some good practical tips for people struggling to get to sleep.
I will be suggesting some of them to my restless hubby.
Thank you for taking time to produce this post

Good read, Definitely stress its a huge factor because of our emotions we get fatigue in fact I can compare this when I start doing boxing , my first sparring session I was really so tired not because of throwing punches but because being stress of getting hit or fear of getting hit so this is very very relevant article.

Stacy Gallagher

I really appreciate your post! Chronic insomnia can have a negative impact on your health causing fatigue, inability to focus/concentrate, poor memory, mood disturbance and low motivation/energy increasing your risk of depression and high blood pressure. Many studies show that the hormone cortisol can play a major role in preventing you from getting a good nights sleep which ties to the stress that you mention above. I like the solutions that you recommend to try to minimize stressful reactions.
