How many times when you were a little girl you looked at the models on TV and tried to walk like them. Maybe you were trying to imitate the elegance of a dancer, or you imagined yourself being a superstar;)
I hope I was not the only one who did it :)))
However, if you are on this page probably your question will have been: How to walk elegantly? Am I right?
In the following lines, I want to unveil to you the quickest and most effective way that if put into practice will help you not only to walk gracefully but also to feel more confident about yourself.
If you want to know how you walk, look at your posture in the mirror.
When we dress elegantly, with a nice twelve heel, we feel to be more beautiful than usual. Do you agree?
Let’s face it, in these cases, we feel like princesses.
But I do not know if you ever happened to look in the mirror while you were talking to someone; in a moment when you did not think about your posture or about looking elegant, because you focused on something else. Has it ever happened to you?
Well, I had such an experience! And I was shocked when I saw myself in the mirror.
At that event, I was speaking with a gentleman; I had a beautiful dress on, a pair of shoe heel twelve and I had an excellent makeup, I felt very comfortable until I accidentally turned my head and I did not see my whole figure in the mirror that was next to me.
In that mirror, I saw only a girl who looked like she had a hump. And it was strange for me because, in reality, I don’t have any hump.
Why then did I see myself that way?
At that point, I justified myself by telling myself that I was too tired because of my heels. But it was a lie. I got tired even when I was wearing sneakers.
The problem, in fact, was my wrong posture. And think that the pose does not change when you walk. How can we elegantly walk when we don’t even know how to keep a right pose?
So, cute clothes won’t cover our clumsy bearing.
What is the right posture?
After a few years, I started to frequent a theater school, where I find out the existence of a so-called “neutral posture.”
Teachers wanted us to keep the neutral posture, because that way we would hold more focus during the lessons, would listen better and would capture more information.
We have had to stand still in that position for months. But I can’t say that we always knew how to keep that posture because no one explained to us how to do it in practice.
I learned the practice after ending that school when I was attending another course.
The purpose of the neutral posture is for you to feel present among others; this way you will feel more confident in yourself.
Not only, if you find yourself on a stage, the audience will also perceive your presence even if you stay still without saying a word. And if you walk keeping the right posture, your presence will be a nice one.
People will perceive your confidence in yourself, and they will like to look at you.
Even better, as there is a link between the body and the mind, even if you don’t feel enough confidence in yourself, if you adopt that posture, it will make you feel better.
When you keep a neutral posture, you can stand for hours and still don’t feel tired at all; Even better if you breathe correctly.
If you want to know how to walk elegantly, first you must adopt the right posture. It will influence your walk and also the way you feel among others.
How to keep a neutral posture?
I made an incredible discovery in the course of diction.
Since the level of our self-esteem has effects on our body and on the way in which we relate to others; This will also have effects on our voice.
As already said before, if we know how to manage our body, we can control our emotions, and as a result, we will use our voice more confidently. That’s the reason I learned the neutral posture and how to walk elegantly in the course of diction.
So be attentive to the following exercise and put it into practice immediately, this way you won’t forget it;)
- Stand, with your back facing against a wall.
- Look at the heels of your feet that must be 6 cm apart from the wall.
- Keep feet together.
- Stand still, straight, with the back facing against the wall.
- Standing 6 cm away with your heels, bring your back close to the wall.
- In case you have touched the wall first with your lower back, you would have the bottom back too far back. So, you would keep a wrong position.
- In case you have touched first your shoulders against the wall, it means that you maintain the hunchback position.
- If the low back and shoulders have touched the wall at the same time, it means that you maintain a correct posture.
If at the first attempt you realize you do not have a right posture, that is, that you touch against the wall first with the low back, or first with the shoulders, do not worry.
Always distant 6 cm heels from the wall, redo the exercise until you touch with both shoulders and low back at the same time. Usually, the attempts are from 3 to 5. So, nothing complicated.
- When you’ve got the right position, stand still against the wall for 30 seconds.
- Then take off from the wall, always keeping the right spot and walk this way for a minute or two.
- Make sure you keep your chin parallel to the ground.
Redo the exercise two more times. Then every morning until you learn to keep the right position. It will bring you away up to 5 minutes in the morning, but it will make a huge difference in your way of walking and your life.
Elegantly walking is critical to our self-confidence. It will even make you feel beautiful.
